Mysterious Yet Tragic Ending
Being a sister to a pregnant woman is not as easy as it may seem. Blanche is Stella’s sister. She came to visit Stella and her husband, Stanley. While she was there to visit, it became a long term stay. A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams is a play that explains the tragedy that occurred to Blanche. Blanche went through many disturbing events that led to a tragic ending. Stanley was mean to Blanche; all of the other characters were kind. The ending to Williams’s play was tragic for many reasons.

He then put them on. Stanley was hubris and not afraid to show it. Both Stanley and Blanche were intoxicated when they were in the house alone together. Williams said Blanche resisted what Stanley was trying to force her to do, “Stay back! Don 't come near me or I’ll…” (130). Stanley put himself upon Blanche without her consent. Also, Stanley said in scene 10, “Drop the bottle top. We 've had this date coming for a long time” (Williams 130). Stanley wanted to do this for a long time. Stanley was a raffish character. Both were drinking and were not able to remember the occurences that were taking place when Blanche’s sister was in the hospital having a child. This was tragic because Stanley had a wife and a soon to be young son. Stanley took advantage of his sister in law when she was under the influence of alcohol and did what he pleased because Stanley knew no one was there to stop him of doing so. When Stella was told of her husband’s doings, she didn 't even believe her own sister. Stella believed her drunk, lying and rapist of a husband over her sister that she had known her whole life. Blanche was seeing things from her thinking that she got a phone call from her old lover, Shep Huntleigh, to her lying to Mitch and her own sister. Blanche lived with Stella for over a year and did not even tell Stella why she was there or why she was not currently in school where she should have been. Also, Stanley and Stella were living with a pedophile and they were not even aware of it. Blanche was fired from her last job for having relations with one of her own students. Then after that whole mess Blanche kissed the young mail boy when no one was around; for the record, Blanche was 30 and the mail boy was 16. Even worse, she was seeing Mitch when she kissed the young man that came to her to deliver mail. The author Williams quotes, “ Come here I just want to kiss you, just once, softly and sweetly on the lips” (84). The quote shows the feelings Blanche has and how she is vulnerable. Blanche was also the reason that her young husband killed herself. Blanche was away and when she came back into the house, Blanche 's husband was in the bed with another man. Later in the story Blanche and her husband went out drinking together at a club. On the dance floor, Blanche told her young husband that she was, “disgusted with him.” Blanche was sickened by her husband being homosexual and said the wrong thing at the wrong time.
