I opined to my brother last week that today’s generation seems much busier than we were, when thinking about Jennifer’s robust schedule of extracurricular activities. He reminded me that we had been similarly involved at a similar age while at Milton. The main difference between our experiences and Jennifer’s, is that most of our activities resided on a single campus less than ten miles from our home. Jennifer’s theatrical, choral, soccer, golf, softball and skiing activities regularly take us all over New England. We are accustomed to evening lessons, rehearsals, and performances. Jennifer’s involvement with musicals, for example, require rehearsals twice a week from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm and on weekend days from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm. Over the past twelve months, Jennifer has performed in about fifty choral, theatrical and musical events, mostly in the evening with an occasional matinee. Like mastering any new language, to get the most out of the experience, one needs to speak it full-time. To contribute to and succeed in Milton’s dynamic environment, Jennifer will need learn “Milton” full-time. Many of her current interests that take us into Boston and beyond, like photography, film and video production, public speaking or musical theatre, are courses available at Milton. I envision Jennifer taking as many of these courses as her interests span, schedule permits and graduation requirements accommodate, while maintaining decent grades. Jennifer has become a consummate planner and scheduler with commendable self-discipline. She will complete homework on a Saturday afternoon in anticipation of jampacked upcoming “tech” week.
