Thorough out the entirety of this course I have noticed in just about every section there has been some kind of symbol or religious representation. Symbols like lambs, eagles, anarchy and children just to name a few to represent innocence, holiness and evil. The three stories that I want to focus on here are Blake’s Songs of Innocence, Yeats’ The Second Coming and Marquez’s A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings. I wanted to reflect on what these representations mean in the story and the meaning behind why the author used them and the style they used. The family that finds him, uses him as a way to make profit and don’t treat him in the best manner. My interpretation of this first part of the story was that the man was of course an angel and was supposed to represent God and choosing the good and righteous path. Later in the story they bring in the spider women and everyone being to like he more and forget about the man with wings. This reminded me of the Devil and Evil and how people get side tract about things that look cool and new from the beginning and lose sight of what is really good. The old man was a representation of how the path of goodness isn’t always the best and easiest and you may get dragged down and look like crap like the man did but in the end you will make it out and heal and be able to fly off and prosper. He uses the Magical realism genre to take a realist topic and explain it in a magical sense in order to get across to people in a way that didn’t seem so much like a Sunday
