According to the short story “A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, people will pass miracles as if they are nothing due to the different expectations, religious beliefs, and viewpoints of what will occur when a miracle takes place. The author, shows how people would mistaken an angel or a miracle for something else. In the story, Pelayo and Elisenda, a married couple in the story, find “A very old man, lying face down in the mud...impeded by his enormous wings,” (1). Since the man has only few hairs and teeth with “Huge, buzzard wings, dirty and half-plucked,” (1), Pelayo and Elisenda think “He was a castaway from some foreign ship wrecked by the storm,” (1), rather than an angel.
