Like the planets rotate by the will of the sun’s gravity or a dog obeys his master so has woman been bent by the will of man. Woman has been made to be the docile and fragile creature who depends upon the strong and sturdy hands of man. Always the damsel who needs his saving. It was no different in Ancient Greece where “women were seen as objects.” (Arthur, p. 86) Within the misogynist society a woman’s role was only one of being a powerless housewife while men would go about their lives doing as they pleased. Everything from religion, politics, and education to entertainment and literature was dominated by the misogynistic ideal that women were inferior to men. There always seemed to be a way to keep women away from the thrust of power.
