The career I investigated is the career of an ABA therapist. An ABA therapist practices ABA therapy for individuals. ABA therapy is an intervention therapy that focuses on observing people and their behaviors and helping them improve their behaviors. They reinforce skill-building, such as communication, focus, and social skills. ABA therapists help people develop positive behaviors and help reduce unwanted ones. They may also help with learning other abilities, such as language, specifically nonverbal, and personal hygiene. I also learned about the different skills that an ABA therapist should have. These include behavior analysis, communication, adaptability, and empathy. Behavior analysis: This is how ABA therapists should have a decent amount of knowledge of behavior analysis to be able to observe their patients and take the information they gather to treat their patients. Communication: It is important for ABA therapists to have good communication skills so they can listen to their patients and their families, and also be able to communicate important information to them. Adaptability: Having good adaptability is important as a therapist, so they can tailor their services to their patients. Empathy: This is a very important skill to have, as it helps a therapist be able to understand how their patient is feeling and it can help build trust between the therapist and the patient.
