Legacy Hospices provides care for people who are in their last stages of life. Hospices allow nurses, doctors, spiritual leaders, and rehab teams to stay and work with the patient so the family members can carry out their everyday lives. Hospices job is not to postpone deaths, but to prepare the family in every way possible for that time.

Life and Death in Assisted Living Facilities Assisted living facilities are one of the fastest growing industries in the United States. Unfortunately, assisted living facilities have a history of being problematic. Specific cases from the movie Life and Death in Assisted Living Facilities indicates that assisted living facilities are often under staffed, poorly trained, and often admit elderly patients who are not qualified candidates for their facilities (Byker and Thompson, 2013). When taking this in to account, it is important to consider why families may admit their loved ones in to assisted living facilities.
What is Hospice? What do we as people think of when we mention the word, Hospice? “Bereavement” in other words that is not always a true statement. I now been with Hospice going on three years; June 17 2016. I have taken care of most of the patients I have had since day one as yes’ there are long term patients not short term.
The difference between hospitalization and Hospice is the administration of treatment. Hospice care only treats symptoms and focuses on pain management instead of seeking a cure to a terminal illness. A person that is put on Hospice care is usually given only six months to live. It seems like cruel punishment to prolong the miserable suffering life of a person that is past the point of no return and simply wants to die in peace. Although licensed personnel can give higher doses of pain medication to lessen the suffering, they can be prosecuted in Alabama if the doses are lethal, and patients may not be able to communicate their pain to the appropriate authoritative
Tom Kitwood (1997) cited in (The Open University, 2017) supports the approach of seeing and treating people as individuals, he calls this ‘person-centred care’. This approach looks at the physical, social and psychological needs of the individual. Person-centred care encourages people to have more involvement in making decisions about their care so they get the support and service they need. There are three main types of long-term care settings such as residential care homes which offer different degrees of personal care, Nursing homes offer care which requires the skills of qualified nursing staff and long-stay hospitals which offer a more specialised medical care. (The Open University, 2017).
Every decade our population gets older and a whole new generation of seniors comes along with a new set of attitudes and expectations as to what they want from an assisted living facility. And now that people are living longer, there is a much greater need for these facilities. They can provide a refuge to many family members that may become severely burdened by the arduous task of taking care of a loved one who can no longer take care of themselves. When simple tasks such as bathing and feeding become near impossible to manage alone, not to mention driving to the store and shopping, decisions about placement into a home become paramount. Most important to the family members is the ability of the facility to provide the adequate care that is needed for their loved ones.

The ways in which diversity can impact on work and work relationships: Cultural diversity can affect the workplace in numerous ways. Negative impacts can include miscommunication, creation of barriers, and dysfunctional adaptation behaviors. Positive impacts can include building a sound knowledge base fellow colleagues, which can make for smoother integration of the organization into foreign cultures. Many organizations have recognized that the workforce is changing and they are working to create a work environment in which diversity and difference are valued and in which employees can work to their fullest. They are dealing with the problems that arise when people in the workplace communicate.
From newborn babies to those at end of life, the environmental theory of Florence Nightingale can benefit all populations. A specific population to apply the Florence Nightingale theory to is patients at end of life and hospice care. A patient and family choosing hospice care are in need of a holistic care plan. The goal of hospice care is to reduce symptoms, prevent hospitalizations and maintain quality of life until the end. Psychosocially a patient and family need time to understand and accept the diagnosis.
