Currently, I belong AFSCME Local 2864 represents the librarians, planning analysts, principal planning analysts, vocational counselors, and staff from the Medical Examiner’s Office at Hennepin County. AFSCME began in 1932, during the economic depression, when a small group of white-collar professional state employees met in Madison, Wisconsin. They established Wisconsin State Employees Union/Council 24. AFSCME defended and enhanced to help spread the civil service system. In addition, they helped spread the civil service system across the country. During the 1960’s AFSCME’s great efforts were linked with those of the civil rights movement.
