Being a part of the AIMS program at BGSU is very important for all minorities to be involved in, including women. An education in the STEM field is more critical than ever before. With the huge advancements in technology over the past decade, the STEM field has grown immensely. Also, being a minority is a great advantage and experience for everyone. Currently, I am a student at Penta Career Center where I study construction masonry, in which I am 1 of 2 females in my senior graduating class. I have grown a strong passion for construction and am very excited to further my career at BGSU in the Construction Management major. There are so many opportunities and doors opened by being a part of the AIMS program during my 4 years at BGSU. It would mean everything to me to be accepted into this program. …show more content…

Being in the Construction Management major, will allow me to work on commercial jobs that mainly focus on building schools and major company buildings; a education in STEM is easily translated into my work. For example, building energy efficient and durable structures will benefit the economy by saving a lot of money in the long run. With all of the new technology that has come out in the past decade with renewable energy, more schools and companies will be utilizing these advancements through future buildings to save on energy cost. Also, having a strong background of math education is very beneficial to solving everyday problems on a construction site. For instance, on every job there will be cost estimation for different kinds of material, which in most cases, will require some formulas and possibly trig functions. By calculating the proper amount of material, it will help save from wasting materials or spending unnecessary funds on extra material.
