Country of auther: Faulkner was born in New Albany, Mississippi. 4. Characters: Major- Benjy Compson: He is the youngest of the Compsons and has been mentaly disabled for his whole life. Innocent- He is unable to talk for most of his life and is unable to express how he feels and can cause no harm. Isolated- His family do not want him around nor to be seen by others. Caddy Compson: She is the only daughter of the Compsons. She never really fully appears in the story but is often talked about or mention through the story. The story takes place in Yoknapatawpha, Mississippi. The story starts of on April 7, 1928 and the story focuses on the Compson a once wealthy family of the south. The first part of the book is narrated by the youngest of the Compsons a 33 year old mentaly disabled man. His original name was Maury, after his mothers brother, but was change to Benjamin by his mother because she considered his original name unlucky. Benjy, as he is known as, is taken care of by Luster who is the grandchild of Dilsey the Compsons servant. Through out the first part Luster takes Benjy along to find a quarter he lost and meanwhile Benjy is having flash backs of past memories, though they are not in order. Most of his memories are of his sister Caddy. Caddy is the only daughter of the Compsons. For Benjy Caddy is his peace because when she is with him he is calm what he mostly loves of her is her smell of pine. The parts he focuses most on is those of when he encounters Caddy with one of her boyfriends I think. The second part takes place on June 2, 1910 and is narrated by Quentin Compson. Quentin is the eldest and on who the Compsons hopes rely on. Quentin developes strong feelings for his sister at a young which causes him to look at all women as someones sister. Caddy gets pregnant from some guy which really effects Quentin. When he discovers this he tries to convince Caddy to run away with him and say he impregnated her but she refuses. Quentin moves to Cambridge, Massachusetts to go study at Harvard. Before he left his father gave him a watch, which was passed on to his father by his grandfather, to make him loose interest in time. When he is in Cambridge he goes unstable the watch he was given makes him just focus on the past and not the present. He can not stand the watch and breaks it but his desperation grows when the watch continues to tick. His tormenting of Caddy leads to him committing suicide by jumping of
