I am from Taiwan and have been living there for 11 years. I graudated from UCI last year and after I graudated I worked as a tutor teaching AP Psychology Prep Course. I was drawn to this field after taking an Industrial Organizational Psychology course during my undergraduate years. We did a group project where we wrote a proposal on identifiying the issues that a (fabricated) organization is having and coming up with solutions and steps in helping to implement those solutions. The project gave me a superficial understanding of what was like to be an IO consultant and it intrigued me to pursue higher education to acquire a deeper understanding of how organizations function and ways to help increase organizational effectiveness. However I also have interest in doing various HR related jobs such as training, recruitment, and performance evaluation. One of my objectives is to familiar with the APA style because most of the psychology research writings are done in APA format and it will be useful when I am writing research essays and dissertation. I also hope to broader my understanding of various OP career paths so that I can start to develop a clear professional development plan after this class . I am interested in researching ways to increase training effectiveness and see how individual’s motivation and expecation affect the effectiveness of training program. I am interested in researching the topic of training because of my past experience of designing and implementing training sessions and I came across some issues with training. For example I noticed interns were not motivated to attend the training sessions because the interns were not getting paid. Thus I want to investigate further on how motivation have an influence on the training effectiveness. I also noticed that issue with transfer training where interns were not carrying what they learned from the training sessions and applying it to work.
