What: The transition of culture from hunting and gathering to agriculture and permanent settlements.

When: During Paleolithic period, approximately 10,000 BCE
Why: It changed the way people lived altogether. Humans went from simple people to complicated beings with new technologies, ideas, and ways of completing certain tasks.

What: An ancient state and cultural region set in Mesopotamia.
Where: Babylon (modern day Iraq), central-southern Mesopotamia
When: 1894 BCE
Why: They had influence on future empires, such as the Persians, and paved the way to success with a basis of society.
Hammurabi
What: The sixth king of the First Dynasty of Babylon.

Without him, Greek civilization would never have become as powerful as it was. And without the Greek world, western civilization probably never would have existed.
Cyrus the Great
What: The first Achaemenid Emperor
Where: western Persia
When: 600 – 529 BCE
Why: He unified two separate Iranian kingdoms and created the largest state in the world at that particular time.
Persian Wars
What: A series of conflicts between Persia and Greek city-states
Where: areas of Greece and Persia
When: 492 – 449 BCE
Why: These wars, with the Greek victories, prevented Persian rule and spread of culture in the western world. The development of the west would’ve been linked to aspects of Asian culture and the western world known today wouldn’t have existed.
