Going to Barret Honors College at ASU would put me in a better position to be a global citizen. For the past four years, I have developed my programming and engineering skills by studying in my high school’s Computer Science and Electrical Engineering (CSEE) program. Though I value the engineering skills I have developed in CSEE, I am most grateful for the opportunity to work as a teacher’s assistant during CSEE’s Summer Robotics Program. CSEE’s Summer Robotics Program is a class designed to introduce and foster an appreciation for engineering in underrepresented middle school students. During class, I would help my teacher teach classes, answer questions, and assist students in their lab work. At first, it was difficult to get a class full of energetic middle schoolers to sit down and focus on their work. After my teacher gave lectures, I usually had to reteach the material to each lab group. When my students would get bored or frustrated, I would encourage them to keep trying and should them how to solve their problems. I was proud to see my students finish their robots and test them out in the Robotics lab. The most rewarding part was seeing how far my students had developed and how excited they were about engineering. At ASU, I would like to continue to extend educational opportunities to unrepresented …show more content…

Through the Engineers Without Borders organization, I can travel to other parts of the world and help developing communities through financial and environmental sustainable engineering projects. Specifically, I would like to make sustainable electrical power more accessible to under-developed communities. This can be accomplished by equipping preexisting buildings with devices that can generate electricity from renewable resources like solar power. By doing so, I hope to help under-developed communities develop more modern and stable
