In two short stories the main characters have to deal with Adversity and they both have too uses there smarts to conquer it. The the Short Story “The Sniper” by Liam O’Flaherty and “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell both of the main characters have to think of a way to outsmart their enemies. In “The Sniper” A Republican Sniper was laying watch on a roof. A cross the way there is another sniper wanting him dead.
Aaron Copland was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 14, 1900. Growing up as a child Copland found himself attending a few different musicals such as New York symphony and Brooklyn Academy of music. Like many other young musicians, he was attracted to the classical history and musicians of Europe. In 1906 Copland was attending public school 111 in Brooklyn. By 1909 he was already making up songs on the piano.
Everyone has depression, but did you know on October 29, 1929 the whole US went into depression. People lost their jobs, people lost their homes and lot’s of other things. Throughout AVI’s nothing but the truth, Philip Malloy and his narrow minded attitude bounces from wanting to be a part of the track team to becoming allies with his homeroom teacher, Miss Narwin. Phil becomes distracted overtime which leads towards him making choices that end up affecting other character’s daily lives. Phil’s hate for Miss Narwin forces him to get kicked out of her class due to him humming which turns into neither Phil nor Miss Narwin being able to attend Harrison high school any longer. Philips regretful decisions ultimately lead to a undeserved loss of a career and a developed well
“How We Listen” begins by providing us with a detailed description of Aaron Copland’s background and accomplishments, then moves on to briefly describe his views and ideas that are expressed in the rest of the passage. In the introduction, we are presented with Copland’s theory that divides the activity of listening to music (specifically the classical genre) into three categories; sensuous plane, the expressive plane, and the sheerly musical plane. The sensuous plane allows the listener to simply relax, take in, and appreciate the beauty of the music.
In Nothing But the Truth there is one thing that stood out to me throughout the entire book. The whole book is full of lies. Philip Malloy tells lies about everything and to everyone. He lies to his parents, the principal, and even to a reporter that is interviewing him. Throughout the book we continue to see the lies play out until the very end of the book when Philip finally decides to tell the truth.
Unwind The storyline of novel Unwind written by Neal Shurterman revolves around the issues of second civil war in the United States. The author has overviewed the future of the war and has imagined a world where armed conflict may arise over the debate of abortion. This is why the country came to an agreement and passed a Bill of Life to abolish abortions. Unwind has raised questions regarding the rights of teenagers to make future decisions.
The topic I will be using is "A life for a life" by Igor Primoratz. Primoratz argues that death penalties for someone's crime is morally justifiable. He has research thoroughly on how people would say that death penalty violates a right of life, and that it promotes logical inconsistency, judicial errors, disproportionate application for poor and minorities, and he had also have a counter argument for each of the followings. He believes that the more severe a crime a person does, the more severe the punishment should be, the less severe a crime is, the less severe the punishment should be. An example would be say a man had raped a women, when he is caught for his action and punished for it, he would be raped for his crime.
Charles Ives was the first composer we discussed in this course. Ives lived in Danbury, Connecticut most of his life and many of his compositions are based on his life and experiences in Danbury. Since Ives’ father was musician, he was able to study a wide variety of instruments, but he had a different perspective when composing. Ives’ music is often described as poly-stylism, meaning each piece contains multiple style of music. This same effect is in nature.

He was a beloved Polish composer and pianist who, during his short 39-year life, was able to rise to become a cultural icon in music history. His main focuses in music were the melody, harmony, and specific piano techniques that were prominent during the Romantic period. His skill on the piano and his heart-felt pieces forever revolutionized the use of the piano for solo, musical pieces. Chopin was born in a small town near Warsaw, Poland named Zelazowa Wola on March 1, 1810.
One of the most influential American composers from the 20th century is Steve Reich. Steve Reich was born in New York on October 3, 1936. It is believed that his mother, a songwriter who also had a connection with music, influenced his affinity towards music. Reich studied philosophy at Cornell University and composition at the Julliard School of Music. He studied with William Bergsma and Vincent Persichetti, while he received his M.A. degree at Mills College (California), and his mentors were Luciano Berio and Darius Milhaud.
Music Appreciation Essay Music today is something we can easily take for granted. Through class I have learned several important influences in music. The most significant composer in my opinion was Ludwig van Beethoven. I feel his works broadened music and took it to a whole new level.
