Recently, many athletes, at the college and professional level, have been in trouble with the law. Athletes have gotten away with violating many laws and policies, but now they are starting to be punished. The NCAA has not done enough to punish their athletes, because the athletes are still behaving wrongly. Athletes that have faced consequences are still causing problems. Therefore, the NCAA needs to do something different in their punishing of the responsible colleges, coaches, and especially players. Jameis Winston, the starting quarterback for the Florida State Seminoles’ football team, has been a part of various crimes and misconducts. Hernandez was heavily involved with the police, while he played for the Gators’ football team, but Urban Meyer, the University of Florida, or the NCAA did not fairly punished him (Bishop). Although he was not convicted, during college, he was uncooperative while he was questioned about a shooting, a recommended for a felony battery charge following a fight (Bishop). Meyer only suspended him from the football team after he failed multiple drug tests (Solotaroff). Following his college career, where he was not properly punished for his actions, he went on to play for the New England Patriots. Now Hernandez awaits his trial, for committing executional style murder, where there are numerous pieces of evidence against him (Bishop) (Solotaroff). If the NCAA would have stepped in and punished the University of Florida and Hernandez, then Hernandez probably not be in this situation (at least not a former professional athlete, that is costing his former team) and Urban Meyer would not still be recruiting criminals at Ohio State
