Abby Sunderland Essay - Cody #4 Abby Sunderland is a teenager that has been sailing her entire life and wanted to sail around the world solo, to be the youngest to do it. 16 year old, Abby Sunderland, should not have been able to sail around the world by herself.
One reason why she should not have been able to sail around the world by herself is because she wasn’t prepared with the right equipment, such as, the kind of boat she had. The boat Abby had was a racing sailboat, not a boat to sail around the world. A racing boat is only for short distance racing, not long journey sailing. Another reason is, it was the wrong time of year for her to be sailing. When she took off for the journey, it was winter time. The people trying to rescue Abby were in danger because if Abby was in the Indian ocean in winter then it makes it harder and more dangerous for them especially because the waves get big and rough. It also put her in danger because she was stuck out in the middle of the ocean and no one to save her until someone found her alive.
Lastly, Abby Sunderland was too young to sail around the world by herself. Abby Sunderland should have had a learner's permit before she sailed around the world. Even though she has been sailing for her entire life, she still should have had a learner's permit before she went sailing around the world. Abby Sunderland (16 year old years olds) is to be sailing around the world solo. If she was going to sail around the world solo, she should have waited a little bit longer until she was like 17-20 years old. Even though her brother sailed the world he still had one more year of experience than her. She could have had more practice sailing in the open sea with the wild eas and the big waves so she would no what it was going to be like when she sailed the sea
