The number one way ABC Carpet and Home outperforms their competitor is by increasing their differentiation in merchandise.
1. Merchandise Management- ABC Carpet and Home offers a vast selection of merchandise including vintage, antique, eco, one-of-a-kind, and modern assortments. For example, the first floor is filled with inspirations, collections and lighting. The second floor is modern and vintage furniture and the fifth is classic and timeless furniture.
2. Pricing- the merchandise was priced very high however, knowing the merchandise is one-of-a-kind it is priced reasonably. For instance, a small candle set can go up to $185.

Customer Service- customer service was everywhere, whichever department you were in there was someone there to ask you if you needed help, or if you are finding everything okay. Bed Bath and Beyond’s sales associates were welcoming and pleasant.
6. Location- Bed Bath and Beyond was a little difficult to find, if the consumer has never been there before. The building where it is located holds three retailers, TJ Max, Marshalls, and Bed Bath and Beyond. BBB is on the main floor when first entering the building.
ABC Carpet and Home had some advantages over Bed Bath and Beyond, however they did not strive in all aspects. ABC Carpet and Home had a wider variety of merchandise from different eras. They could accommodate the antique shopper and the modern-day consumer. Meanwhile BBB has a larger variety of modern-day merchandise for their target customer. In addition, BBB has a more reasonable pricing system to offer their customers. The average income family would feel comfortable shopping at BBB. Furthermore, BBB had advantages in communication mix as well because they promoted their sales everywhere. ABC Carpet has an advantage in location and store design. They are located on a busy corner block, which can be easily spotted and having such a big store; their store layout was exceptional and spacious. Meanwhile BBB’s building has two other stores in it as well and their merchandise takes up every square foot possible. However, BBB’s customer service outperforms ABC Carpet’s greatly.
