Abigail Williams is the source of the witchcraft hysteria in Salem. Abigail is first accused of bewitching Betty Parris in the woods one night. She quickly disputes the accusation by saying they: Ruth Putnam, Tituba, Betty Parris, Mary Warren, and Abigail herself, were only dancing despite it also being highly looked down upon. By starting out with this single lie, her story snowballs and eventually leads to the downfall of Salem. By associating herself with Betty Parris and Ruth Putnam, both of which are sick while Abigail is well, Abigail is submitting herself to a fight she can’t win unless she lies.
Every good story has to have differing characters to drive the story forward. Some are easy to like while others take some time to understand. However, there is usually at least one that immediately stands out as the villain. In The Crucible, this character is Abigail Williams, a selfish and vindictive girl that loves to cause trouble around town. She is the opposite of Elizabeth Proctor, the honest and caring wife of John Proctor.

There were many other reasons she was accused as well. Anyhow, Abigail was a very mean person that always wanted everything to go her way.
Some people think that Abigail is not guilty of witchcraft but i do think she is guilty of witchcraft because she lies alot to a bunch of people. Usually some think that you are innocent until proven guilty but you can tell that she is but all the lies she tells. There is no doubt that Abigail is guilty because she lied about seeing the witches because she did not want to get in trouble by Mr. John Proctor. She danced with the witches in the woods and she was the lier of the whole entire town
Abigail Williams, Deputy Governor Danforth , and Thomas Putnam are responsible for the people, who were wrongly convicted and hanged. These three characters were either looking for vengeance, looking for land, or too dimwitted to realize they were being conned. Hatred was walking in salem and people took their chances accusing their witnesses of being witches to get what they wanted. Abigail Williams was a teenage girl, who reeked vengeance on Elizabeth Proctor.
Throughout the Crucible we saw the true colors of some of these so called saints. People everyone thought was Holy and pure were the biggest liars and evilest humans. So how can you describe someone as evil and a liar? An evil person can be described as someone who is wicked or immoral, and morally wrong or bad; a liar can be thought of as someone who tells lies. I don’t personally think there is just one person responsible for the wrongful convictions during the salem witch trials.
Adolescent minds are the most intelligent kind of mind. A young brain is filled with creativity, imagination and innocence. Though the thought process of a teen is assumed to be selfish there are other factors involved. A combination of these characteristics seems almost dangerous. One would undermine a juvenile to use these qualities to manipulate the court for their own selfish wishes or pleasures.
Arthur Miller was a playwriter, essayisr abd a prominent firgure in the tweinth century American theatre. He was born October 17, 1915 in Harlem. He was married three times to three different women named Inge Morath in 1962-2002, Marylin Monroe in the 1956- 1961, and his last wife was Mary Grace Slattery in 1940-1956. In the Crucible Abigail Williams was a harlot. A harlot is a prostitute (whore) or promiscous woman.
The rumor of witchcraft and darkness is everywhere now due to one special lady. The witch hysteria wouldn't have become hysteria if there wasn't people pushing it and saying it was true and making a big ordeal about it. Abigail Williams is most responsible for the hysteria for pretending to be possessed and influencing the other girls do the same, She went along with the act saying that she was being tormented by real witches playing the victim, making people worry about witches. This woman is drama queen no joke!
Abigail The Victim In the Crucible many are to blame for the events that occurred, but one of the one’s who seems to take blame the most is Abigail Williams. She holds most of the responsibility because she was to blame for the girls meeting with Tituba in the woods. When Parris located the girls in the woods, Abigail tries to hide her behavior because she fears that it will uncover her affair with Proctor if she confesses that she attempted to cast a spell on his wife, Elizabeth. Abigail also lies to avoid being punished for witchcraft.
Anymore in today’s world people can not always believe what others tell them. For example, in The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, when one of the girls accused someone of being a witch, everyone believed them, when in reality the person accused wasn’t really a witch. One of the girls in particular that accused others of being witches was Abigail Williams. When Abigail accused others of being witches, everyone listened and believed. This is how Arthur Miller used the character Abigail Williams in The Crucible to represent the devil figure; in doing so he sends the message that people can not always believe what others tell them.
In all cases, a villain’s wrongdoings lead to conflict. In Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, Abigail Williams is the play’s most prominent villain. Abigail controls the proceedings through her confidence, especially when proposing an argument, manipulative while brainstorming each of her ploys, and selfish when she chooses to benefit herself over the other characters in the play. These characteristics, Abigail’s most significant, are what helped her control the trial and the townspeople. In order to control the proceedings, Abigail uses confidence, manipulation and condescension and is also assertive when forcing people to believe she has dominance over them.
“The jealous are possessed by a mad devil and and a dull spirit at the same time” (Lavatar). This quote is seen throughout The Crucible, a play by Arthur Miller, in a character named Abigail Williams. Located in 1600s Salem, Massachusetts, a group of troublesome girls started accusing many innocent people of witchcraft, which causes a lot of people to die. Abigail was the main instigator, using her psychotic personality to full advantage while being driven by her love for John. Since she is motivated by her lust for John Proctor, her decision to accuse Elizabeth Proctor of witchcraft creates high tensions, restlessness and death by the end of the play.
Often times there’s a point in a person’s life where one wonders if they’re crossing the red line when it comes to reaching their goals. When the lines a drawn and crossed, people suffer, much like the 20 sad souls who were executed in the Salem witch trials, or the 205 falsely accused state department officials. False accusations that ended and ruined people’s lives have been going on for ages like the examples before. Either for self-preservation or to cheat their way up, these things have always been embedded in human nature. Just like in Arthur Miller’s, The crucible, Abigail William’s false accusations propelled the community into its own demise, which also happened when McCarthy doomed 205 members of the state department with his accusations.
Abigail Williams is not your typical teenage girl. She is a girl that will drink blood to kill someone, accuse people of witchcraft, and have a affair. By looking at The Crucible, one can see that Abigail Williams develops the theme of reputation, which is important because people who fear losing their reputation spread hysteria. Protecting her reputation motivates Abigail Williams to accuse others of being a witch.
