Abigail Williams is the source of the witchcraft hysteria in Salem. Abigail is first accused of bewitching Betty Parris in the woods one night. She quickly disputes the accusation by saying they: Ruth Putnam, Tituba, Betty Parris, Mary Warren, and Abigail herself, were only dancing despite it also being highly looked down upon. By starting out with this single lie, her story snowballs and eventually leads to the downfall of Salem. By associating herself with Betty Parris and Ruth Putnam, both of which are sick while Abigail is well, Abigail is submitting herself to a fight she can’t win unless she lies.

When the lines a drawn and crossed, people suffer, much like the 20 sad souls who were executed in the Salem witch trials, or the 205 falsely accused state department officials. False accusations that ended and ruined people’s lives have been going on for ages like the examples before. Either for self-preservation or to cheat their way up, these things have always been embedded in human nature. Just like in Arthur Miller’s, The crucible, Abigail William’s false accusations propelled the community into its own demise, which also happened when McCarthy doomed 205 members of the state department with his accusations.
Some people think that Abigail is not guilty of witchcraft but i do think she is guilty of witchcraft because she lies alot to a bunch of people. Usually some think that you are innocent until proven guilty but you can tell that she is but all the lies she tells. There is no doubt that Abigail is guilty because she lied about seeing the witches because she did not want to get in trouble by Mr. John Proctor. These three characters were either looking for vengeance, looking for land, or too dimwitted to realize they were being conned. Hatred was walking in salem and people took their chances accusing their witnesses of being witches to get what they wanted. Abigail Williams was a teenage girl, who reeked vengeance on Elizabeth Proctor.
In the Salem Witch Trials in 1692, more than 200 innocent people were accused, 19 of the innocent people were hanged, and one innocent man was crushed. Many people could have been held responsible in the play that Arthur Miller wrote, The Crucible. The person that held the most responsibility for all the accusations and hangings in Salem is Abigail Williams. Throughout the story, Abigail Williams accuses innocent people of witchcraft, is manipulative, and lies throughout the story. Abigail Williams had many ways to accuse innocent people of witchcraft.
Throughout the Crucible we saw the true colors of some of these so called saints. People everyone thought was Holy and pure were the biggest liars and evilest humans. So how can you describe someone as evil and a liar? An evil person can be described as someone who is wicked or immoral, and morally wrong or bad; a liar can be thought of as someone who tells lies. I don’t personally think there is just one person responsible for the wrongful convictions during the salem witch trials.
Adolescent minds are the most intelligent kind of mind. A young brain is filled with creativity, imagination and innocence. Though the thought process of a teen is assumed to be selfish there are other factors involved. A combination of these characteristics seems almost dangerous. One would undermine a juvenile to use these qualities to manipulate the court for their own selfish wishes or pleasures.

He was married three times to three different women named Inge Morath in 1962-2002, Marylin Monroe in the 1956- 1961, and his last wife was Mary Grace Slattery in 1940-1956. In the Crucible Abigail Williams was a harlot. A harlot is a prostitute (whore) or promiscous woman.

Arthur Miller represents Abigail in many different ways in the crucible, using her to show both how bent and cruel the government is, and to demonstrate how one little opportunity to gain power can cause many problems for all others. The main way he does this is through Abigail’s image and feelings he uses her attitude to tell the story in it’s own way. Firstly, he shows her to be a sweet and innocent girl, yet sneaky and unnoticed.
The rumor of witchcraft and darkness is everywhere now due to one special lady. The witch hysteria wouldn't have become hysteria if there wasn't people pushing it and saying it was true and making a big ordeal about it. Abigail Williams is most responsible for the hysteria for pretending to be possessed and influencing the other girls do the same, She went along with the act saying that she was being tormented by real witches playing the victim, making people worry about witches. This woman is drama queen no joke!
Anymore in today’s world people can not always believe what others tell them. For example, in The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, when one of the girls accused someone of being a witch, everyone believed them, when in reality the person accused wasn’t really a witch. One of the girls in particular that accused others of being witches was Abigail Williams. When Abigail accused others of being witches, everyone listened and believed. Abigail The Victim In the Crucible many are to blame for the events that occurred, but one of the one’s who seems to take blame the most is Abigail Williams. She holds most of the responsibility because she was to blame for the girls meeting with Tituba in the woods. When Parris located the girls in the woods, Abigail tries to hide her behavior because she fears that it will uncover her affair with Proctor if she confesses that she attempted to cast a spell on his wife, Elizabeth. Abigail also lies to avoid being punished for witchcraft.
Abigail Williams is not your typical teenage girl. She is a girl that will drink blood to kill someone, accuse people of witchcraft, and have a affair. By looking at The Crucible, one can see that Abigail Williams develops the theme of reputation, which is important because people who fear losing their reputation spread hysteria. Protecting her reputation motivates Abigail Williams to accuse others of being a witch.
