The Crucible is a play written by a man named Arthur Miller. The Crucible is set in a town named Salem Massachusetts. What happened in The Crucible was something called the Salem Witch Trials. The Salem Witch Trials was a series of tests to see if a person was that was accused of being a witch or being evil. The person to blame for these witch trials was because of the actions of a person named Abigail Williams. Abigail Williams was a woman who had many flaws including those of lust, stubbornness, and jealousy. She mainly showed these flaws to a man named John Proctor. Abigail says to John “Gah! I’d almost forgot how strong you are John Proctor!” Abigail is saying to John that she loves the fact that John is so strong and that she would like to feel his strength more often. That quote shows that Abigail is very lustful. Another way that Abigail shows her lust to John Proctor is when she says to John “John, I am waiting for you every night.” She is waiting for John Proctor to come see Abigail so that he can have an affair with his wife. John Proctor’s wife, Elizabeth Proctor, is a very sick woman and Abigail feels like John is very vulnerable for the taking. Jealousy is when someone shows that they desire someone or someone’s actions. She is having a conversation with John Proctor and she says “Oh, I marvel how such a strong man may let such a sickly wife be-“. John interrupts her before she can finish speaking because John knows that Abigail is trying to talk bad about his wife so that he may love Abigail Williams even more than he loves his wife. She’s jealous that she doesn’t have such a strong man like John that will make her happy. She wants John to leave his wife that he loves so much and she wants him to be her man. She is also talking to John when she tells him “She is blackening my name in the village. She is a cold, sniveling woman, and you bend to her!” She is saying that John’s wife is taking all of the attention in the village and is also talking bad about Abigail.
