Through harsh rejection and preposterous delusions, Abigail Williams abused her good name and became the fault for the bitter ends of many for something they were not guilty of. I have reread significant sections of The Crucible several times and have read and analyzed it to the best of my ability on multiple occasions. Once reading this book in my Honors English Course at the number one high school in the state of California, we carefully analyzed the characters, going as far as even making character charts, to understand them and their intentions much better. Arthur Miller was born in Harlem on October 17, 1915, the son of Polish immigrants, Isidore and Augusta Miller. Miller's father had established a successful clothing store upon coming to America, so the family enjoyed wealth; however, this prosperity ended with the Wall Street Crash of 1929. Financial hardship compelled the Miller family to move to Brooklyn in 1929. The Crucible was a play written by Arthur Miller it is a dramatized and partially fictionalized story of Salem that took place in the Massachusetts Bay Colony during 1692/93.

In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, Miller introduces the idea, apparent in today’s world, that sometimes people blame others to save themselves from punishment through the characters’ actions and the asides from Miller. The most prominent character that displays this theme is Abigail Williams. Several times Abigail pushes the blame on others when she senses trouble. When Parris finds the girls dancing in the forest, Abigail knows she has to do something to avoid punishment.

Consequently, Abigail begins to accuse people who are in the bottom tier in of their Puritan society like Goody Good and Goody Osburn. Sadly, the courts took people’s accusations as evidence and nothing could change that testimony unless there is another accusation that contradicts the current one.

Abigail is being accused of witchcraft and she is a manipulative girl. Abigail has been accused of committing witchcraft in the woods and she plans to bring other people down with her.
Abigail Williams is a 17 year-old orphan who is currently living her uncle, Reverend Samuel Parris and his daughter and also her cousin Elizabeth Parris also known as Betty. In the play, it is revealed that she has been dancing in the woods with girls of Salem and performing voodoo with her uncle’s slave, Tituba. Dancing is a very big sin in Salem, dancing is one of the signs of witchcraft so when rumors of witchcraft begin to circulate through the town Abigail and Betty start naming people as witches in order to divert suspicion from themselves.

While many focus on the horror of the witch hunt, some look to the people who conducted the hunts to find out why this happened and who is to blame. Abigail Williams is to blame for the deaths of all the innocent people in the Salem Witch Trials because she pretended to see the devil in people just so she could have one person dead.

Arthur Miller, author of The Crucible, develops Williams’ character to be incredibly unpleasant staring in the beginning of the play. Many prior events that shaped Abigail influence her behavior in the literary work, such as the loss of her parents. However, one’s actions cannot be excused by the events of their past. Therefore, Abigail Williams is completely at fault for the commencement of the witch hysteria that ruins the lives of many innocent individuals.
In this paper I will argue that Abigail Williams is not a trustworthy person. Abigail is an orphan she has constant to feel important and wanted.she was involved in an affair with John Proctor .She hates his wife because she spreads rumors about her. Abigail begins to show me her true character through the scene describing her dancing in the woods. While they were in the woods Abigail was setting a spell on John Proctor's wife.
