Abigail Williams is the source of the witchcraft hysteria in Salem. Abigail is first accused of bewitching Betty Parris in the woods one night. She quickly disputes the accusation by saying they: Ruth Putnam, Tituba, Betty Parris, Mary Warren, and Abigail herself, were only dancing despite it also being highly looked down upon. By starting out with this single lie, her story snowballs and eventually leads to the downfall of Salem. By associating herself with Betty Parris and Ruth Putnam, both of which are sick while Abigail is well, Abigail is submitting herself to a fight she can’t win unless she lies.
The witch trials in Salem occurred because of Abigail and it is her fault. She started something she could not finish and by starting it killed many innocent people and ruined many reputations. Abigail is at blame because she was the one who is basically the "psycho girlfriend" who is obsessed with her ex. But because she is desperately in love with John Proctor, she is willing to do anything to have him all to herself. Just like how she drank a chicken blood charm to kill Elizabeth, which is against her religion.
During the Salem Witch Trials a lot of people were accused of using witchcraft. As a result many people died for other people’s lies, rumors, and selfishness. There is one person that really caused and is most to blame for all the chaos, her name is Abigail. Abigail is to blame for all that has happened in the Witch Trials, the reason for that is because of all the accusing and lying she has done. In addition, it all leads up to her for instance, she used a doll to accuse people of witchcraft.
I believe Abigail Williams is responsible for the hysteria in salem. She lies and manipulates people and causes the histeria to worsen. She lies to the court and to Mr. Paris. She also manipulates the girls into lying as well. Abigail also wants to keep a good reputation in the town and will do whatever it takes.
She shifts the tension of the court being on her by falsely accusing their neighbors of witchcraft in 1692 along with Betty Parris. Abigail used her authority as a child to intimidate them into lying and going along with the story she created. She threatened to accuse them of whitch craft if they didn’t obey her. Williams testified that she saw a ritual outside of the Parris house claiming there were forty witches drinking blood as a part of the ritual. She names Elizabeth Proctor as being present in the ritual.
In a small village called Salem, witchcraft and sorcery exist, however everyone is pointing fingers but not a single soul knows who is actually to blame for this nonsense. During this time period of hysteria, there are multiple scenes that are very questionable due to one person and one person only. Abigail is the one most responsible for the hysteria and witchcraft in Salem. She threatens the group of girls that accompanied her in the woods while they all danced. She has also lied about many things on multiple occasions in which causes an extreme amount of suspicion.
She accused Elizabeth of being a witch hoping she would be hanged in order to have John come back to her. She also set up Mary Warren using the doll she helped her make by sticking a needle through it. All of this started out with false accusations by Abigail, and people believed her because they were
and so she was fired by Elizabeth. So abigail accused Elizabeth to be a witch so she would be hanged. My thesis statement is that during the salem witch trials people were accused of witchery based on personality, looks, race, and if they liked each other or not but not based on actual crime.

The person most responsible for the mass hysteria of witchcraft in salem has to be Abigail Williams. The witch trials wouldn't have gone the way they did if it wasn't for this woman. Abigail lies, manipulates, the whole town with her sly tactics to divert attention from herself because she could be hanged for what she did. She does everything in her power to make sure she does not get hanged by any means necessary. For example, Abigail blamed Tituba for the witchcraft to evade punishment, she chose Tituba because she was a black slave and no one would believe a black slave.
Abigail Williams was the main cause of Salem witch trials because Abigail was the first person to start accusing innocent people of witchcraft. Due to young Abigail actions, 20 innocent people took the calling of death for her actions. how many People do you know willing to lie and cheat the rules to get anything they want .? The fact that twenty people died all because of Abigail craving attention and wanting her own personal gain from accusing others of having spoken with the devil or witchery is insane. I blame Abigail for anything that has happened during the witch trials of Salem.
