Abigail's Mistakes In The Crucible

Twenty people were executed two hundred were accused of witchery when in reality it never happened.That was the result of the 1692 salem witch trials of massachusetts
Clearly the people of salem made some mistakes. But who was to blame? Were they honest mistakes or were they power driven or done out of greed and lies and the result of old grudges or the mentality of three individuals and the mob that followed them.
In Arthur millers play "The Crucible" three characters that stand out the most who were leaders of the mob Abigail,Mr Putnam,Revered Parris
Abigail is one of the main leaders of the salem witch trials mob because, she led a crusade of girls to lie and deceive people using fear.

All of you. We danced. And tituba conjured Ruth Putnam's dead sister. And that is all. And mark this. let either of you breath a word, or the edge of a word about the other things, and I will come to you in the black of some terrible night and I will bring a pointy reckoning that will shudder you" (Miller 175).
In other words Abigail is willing to threaten her friends and destroy the lives of others just to attempt to gain the love from John Proctor back that she feels as if she needs by having his wife hung for witch craft. Of course the girls would go along with her, there lives were threatened, they were clearly petrified with fear.She's lying to the people of Salem, and not only that, she's forcing her friends to lie with

many accusations against people are in the handwriting of thomas putnam or his name is so often found as a witness corroborating the super natural testimony..."(miller 173). Later in the story Giles claims,. "I have it from an honest man who heard Putnam say it! THe day betty, his daughter cried out on Jacobs, he said she'd given him a fair gift of land"(miller 219)
For this reason Mr,Putnam was most definitely one of the main leaders of the mob. It's not surprising that he bribed his daughter to call people out for witchery when he himself was signing as a witness. He's a power hungry land lusting man because he believed he owned land that his father had wrote in his will, even though it was well known that his father had put land in his will that he didn't even own. But to know all of the girls were lying and to go with it is really a true example of why he was the leader of this mob.
Reverend parris was also part of the mob because, he really only cared about how people perceived him and he was attempting to keep the Salem witch trials hidden and the fact that Reverend Hale was coming to Salem because, his niece Abigail was the main reason that the whole Salem witch trials began as he found her and the other girls dancing in the woods and wanted to keep it a secret because of how the town would see him if his niece was involved with
