Twenty people were executed two hundred were accused of witchery when in reality it never happened.That was the result of the 1692 salem witch trials of massachusetts Clearly the people of salem made some mistakes. But who was to blame? Were they honest mistakes or were they power driven or done out of greed and lies and the result of old grudges or the mentality of three individuals and the mob that followed them. many accusations against people are in the handwriting of thomas putnam or his name is so often found as a witness corroborating the super natural testimony..."(miller 173). Later in the story Giles claims,. "I have it from an honest man who heard Putnam say it! THe day betty, his daughter cried out on Jacobs, he said she'd given him a fair gift of land"(miller 219) For this reason Mr,Putnam was most definitely one of the main leaders of the mob. It's not surprising that he bribed his daughter to call people out for witchery when he himself was signing as a witness. He's a power hungry land lusting man because he believed he owned land that his father had wrote in his will, even though it was well known that his father had put land in his will that he didn't even own. But to know all of the girls were lying and to go with it is really a true example of why he was the leader of this mob. Reverend parris was also part of the mob because, he really only cared about how people perceived him and he was attempting to keep the Salem witch trials hidden and the fact that Reverend Hale was coming to Salem because, his niece Abigail was the main reason that the whole Salem witch trials began as he found her and the other girls dancing in the woods and wanted to keep it a secret because of how the town would see him if his niece was involved with
