Abolishing Animal Abuse
The room is dark. It reeks of uncleaned cages. The tiny wire crates are stacked on top of each other. The dogs in each cage whine. They can barely turn around. The water in their bowls is green and full of algae. It hasn’t been changed in months. Many of the dogs are sick or injured but, they won’t receive medical attention. This is a puppy mill. The puppies in puppy mills are suffering, just like many other animals all around the world. Even though animals are being abused due to inhumane treatment, organizations and teens are trying to stop it. Many animals aren’t properly cared for, leading to illness or injuries. Although animal abuse occurs, many people think that it isn’t fair to the animals but, other people simply don’t care. There are about 10 thousand puppy mills in the United States. (The Year in Puppy Mills). Puppy mills are establishments that breed puppies for sale, typically in inhumane conditions. Puppy mills are breeding more dogs each day when four million dogs and cats are killed in shelters when no one adopts them. This shows that owners of puppy mills only care about the profit. According to the video, ‘The Year in Animals No. 10- Puppy Mills,’ “It’s an industry based on cruelty and greed.” Clearly, the puppies in puppy mills are treated unfairly. The dogs are bred in terrible conditions but, it doesn’t matter to those who run puppy mills. All they care about is the money. The dogs in puppy mills don’t get veternairy treatment. Sometimes the dog’s cages are so small that the dog can’t even turn around. Additionally, the dog’s paws can be injured from walking around in wire cages.
