The essay, "Between a Woman and Her Doctor", by Martha Mendoza was an interesting story. I disagree about abortion and the fact that people kill innocent babies. However, if, and only if, the baby is already dead, the mother should decide what should be done. The fact that Martha had such a difficult time during this chaotic period in her life shows that something should be done about this issue. Doctors need to be trained to conduct these surgeries to remove the dead fetus.
Gianna Jenson, the author of a powerful speech regarding abortion, explained her horrible personal experience with the process when she explained in detail, her story at a pro-life speaking event. The audience was captivated by her language and the way she made the audience think about her speech and exactly how she delivered it. The author wrote this impactful speech in order to share her story with others and hope it would influence at least one person and alter their opinion. Gianna Jenson writes and effective argument against abortion in order to tell her own personal story by appealing to the reader’s sense of pathos, using rhetorical questioning and charged emotional language.
Before getting this job, she always felt that abortion seemed “kind of rough, kind of brutal or something.” (Walsh 27.) She thought that abortion was ultimately wrong and that she would never make that decision for herself. But after witnessing some horrible cases of child abuse, she decided that she was pro-choice. “Universal scale of right and wrong, definitely an abortion is… nothing compared to this [abuse].”
(“Maria Cantwell on Abortions”). Her votes in the senate have shown her 100% pro-choice
According to the WHO, there are an estimated 40-50 million abortions every year around the globe. The dictionary definition for abortion is ‘the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy’, and people usually very absolutist about their stances regarding this topic. The two sides of the argument are those who are pro-choice or pro-life. The pro-choice side argue that it is the free will of the parent/s to decide on how to handle the pregnancy as unplanned pregnancies could mean a detrimental life for both the parent/s and the baby as the parent/s may not have the resources to support and take care of the baby, or are not ready for such big change and responsibility. On the other hand, the pro-life side argue that life begins at conception
Before writing this essay I thought long and hard on what topic I would choose. I wanted it to be something very interesting to me and something I had knowledge about already. After reading the article “Three Legal Reasons Abortion Should Be Banned” by Kristi Burton Brown, I knew exactly what I wanted to write and what my argument would be. While writing this essay I think I had a growth mindset. Although I already had knowledge on abortions reading this article made me realize why abortions most definitely be banned.
There is a long untold history on abortion before it was officially legalized and accepted in a society. Between the 1800’s and 1973 abortion was criminalized and was believed to be the devils practice to anyone who tried to perform abortions and those who chose to try and do abortions were thrown into jail for helping a women. During this time, women of both black and white races were shunned from their homes and sent to an asylum or arrested along with their lover if the women got pregnant before marriage. In fear of being shunned or arrested, women performed illegal abortions that were very deadly, women tried inflicting pain to themselves by throwing themselves down stairs, or tried stabbing themselves in the stomach with scissors or knifes. They also injected poisons and toxins such as bleach into their bodies which caused most women organ failure and/or death, and if they survived they were disfigured or were in pain from permanent injuries.
Sallie Tisdale describes an uneducated sixteen-year-old girl that doesn’t even know how babies are formed. It was not the girl’s fault for getting pregnant; she was raped (Tisdale 416). Knowing this, the audience, like the author, feels compassion for the girl. It would be unfair to the girl if she couldn’t have the abortion. The audience recognizes that although abortion is cruel, it is needed.
It is a sensitive topic and may even not be accepted in society. The woman is apprehensive and does not know what will happen next if she does decide to get an abortion (Norton). The relationship between the characters shows that the woman depends on the man’s approval but also seeks acceptance and

When thinking of personal experiences, “The Mother” by Gwendolyn Brooks touches on the emotional topic of abortion. Even though this poem was published decades ago, it can still be seen very relevant to this day. Accepting abortion and the outcome can indeed be a challenging task for many, while others seem to adapt to it without much of a problem. Gwendolyn Brooks’ writing lets us take a look at the mothers view point of abortion and how a mother responds to her new situation. Throughout the poem, the speaker shows signs of grieving concern of the topic of abortion and its outcomes by presenting emotions of regret and memories, shame and guilt, and contradicting herself to almost justify what she has done.
Teenage pregnancies can also be an economic issue, by having the abortion the girl is able to go to school, get a job, and have children later on in her life. If she can’t afford the abortion she is less likely to go to college and sometimes not continue their high school education. In the symbolic interaction approach abortion can be viewed as a lifesaver or a

The next story occurs in the same house during the year 1996 and it is about an eighteen year old college student named Christine who engages in intimacy with her professor and later finds out she is pregnant. Being a young adult one does not know how to make the best choices. Therefore, she considers the option of aborting but she is confused of what she should do because morality plays a huge role in these three women. In the year 1996, which was the year of whether or not Abortion should be legal, Christine witnessed the protest and she was being yelled names such as killer, and was frightened. Also seeing how people refused to move from the front of the abortion clinic it stood out to me that people have different opinions of abortion, especially when it comes to religion.
