Joseph Campbell once said, “a hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.” Heroes always keep going and never give up. They focus on doing the right thing even if it is not satisfying everyone. Heroes go above and beyond to save the people. They are willing to sacrifice themselves for everyone else. Heroes always do what is right when needed, they are not fearless but they are brave, and they help people if they their is a great sacrifice. Heroes always do what is right when needed. For example, Abraham Lincoln was a hero that reunited a country and led the North to victory. Lincoln was the sixteenth president of the United States. He was the president during the Civil War and he created the Emancipation Proclamation which ended slavery in the South. He was a leader and he was a hero. In 1865 Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. To illustrate, Pat Tillman gave up the career that he loved to go serve for our country after 9/11. He was an amazing football player on the Cardinals. Then 9/11 happened and he decided to join the army. He saved many lives. Tillman said, “Somewhere inside, we hear a voice, it leads us in the direction of who we wish to become. But it is up to us whether or not to follow it.” Pat Tillman will always be an amazing hero no matter what. Finally, the last hero is Chesley Sullenberger. Sully was a pilot. He took off from the airport and both of the engines on the plane were damaged by a bird strike. He saved every person on board by landing the plane in the Hudson River. He saved 155 lives on that plane and he was terrified to do it but he was brave. Everyone on the plane survived, no one died because of Sully.
