Abraham Lincoln is known as the savior to the blacks, freeing them and advocating for their rights. However, he didn 't actually believe they should be equal and did most of the things for his own advantage. Abraham Lincoln was a racist because he thought his race was superior, blacks shouldn 't have equal opportunity, and slavery didn 't need to end. Abraham Lincoln believed in white supremacy throughout his life. In a debate with Stephen A. Douglas, he said: "I as well as Judge Douglas am in favor of the race to which I belong, having the superior position." The definition of racism is to think of your race superior to another. Since he said he preferred his race to the blacks he is obviously racist because of the definition of racism. Lastly, Abraham Lincoln was racist because he never intended to end slavery. Abraham Lincoln only ended slavery in the Confederate States of America during the Civil War and left the slaves in the States he actually had control of in slavery. Also, he said during a debate "I have no purpose directly or indirectly to interfere with the institution of slavery in the States where it exists." He didn 't actually want slaves to be free he just did it for his own advantage so more people and countries would support him during the Civil War.
