During Abraham Lincoln’s presidency at the start of the 1860, an issue that had divided the nation was slavery. Lincoln’s election to presidency as a republic was not received well by the Southern slave states, as they thought that as a republican he was out to abolish slavery. In an effort to calm southern states and keep them from seceding from the United States, he attempts to ease them with his First Inaugural Address. In his First Inaugural Address his key points are to clam southern leaders of slave states, keep the states from seceding, and make them at ease as he enters presidency.

This painting shows George Washington, then a general in the American Revolutionary War, crossing the Delaware River with his troops on the night of Dec. 25, 1776. The crossing immediately advanced Washington 's surprise attack on the Hessian forces in the Battle of Trenton. He uses atlleration to honor the fallen soliders by saying, “The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract.” To conclude, Abraham Lincoln was a hero to many people but to others he was a man with a questionable motive.
Since America was so young joining in on this war would have destroyed our new nation and our government recognized this and acted in a responsible manner. Therefore, our first President, George Washington, is the best candidate for a new monument to be shared by all United States of America’s citizens. Not only did he set the foundation of American leadership, he has continued to influence presidents for the last 228 years. He proved the government could work together by ending the Whiskey Rebellion and lastly, he kept our country out of a battle we could not fight with the Neutrality Proclamation.
There are many statues and murals that represent major events that happened during his presidency. The memorial is in Washington DC and it was designed and built by Lawrence Halprin in 1997. Some other sculptors whose work is included in the memorial are Leonard Baskin, Neil Estern, Thomas Hardy, and George Segal. It took 20 years for the memorial to be finished. It has 21 FDR quotes in all and 2.8 million people go to see it each year.
Presidents are elected to preform and achieve greatness in America; they serve as the commander and chief of armed forces, and they find ways in coming up with agreements regarding trade and aid along with many other things. Many people agreed and disagreed whether or not President Lincoln was the greatest; however the sides of two professors were part in the Taking Sides issue of yes or no.

The Lincoln Memorial is made of bronze girders. It is ornamented with laurel and oak leaves. There are panels of Alabama Marble in between the girders that are saturated with paraffin. This is to increase their transparency. Another difference between the Lincoln Memorial and the Parthenon is their dimensions.
If people truly want to keep the statues, the government should move the statues to a specific museum, so people that want to see the statues can. If people don’t want the see them the people don’t have to. Many people also think that it proves many things about the war and the people and that it is worth it to maintain. Would you want your taxes and money to be misspent on this statue?
In Atlanta Ga, Charlottesville Nc, and in every other formerly Confederate State in the U.S. there has been controversial debates on whether or not the current standing Confederate statues should be removed from public areas. Many people claim that a modern society should not honor the racist soldiers who fought for slavery. Others believe that preserving historical accuracy is essential to learning from the mistakes of the past. The opinions of thousands of citizens clash with one another over the debate between offense and information. I believe that it is most beneficial for the majority of people if the current Confederate monuments remain where they are.
In the news today, a continual debate can be found about the significance of Confederate monuments and if they should remain or be removed. Confederate monuments that have been erected throughout the U.S. should be kept because of the preservation of America’s history. For instance, in the article, The Unbearable Lightness of Confederate-Statue Removal, the author lists how slaveholder monuments aren’t the only statues being vandalized, but the Lincoln Memorial and Mount Rushmore are other symbols of U.S. history that some believe need to “blow up” (Murdock). Every historical symbol can have both people who appreciate it and who oppose it. That doesn’t mean that we should tear down all symbols, but
As Booth began his bold escape, the fate of Abraham Lincoln was unknown. According to “Abraham,” Charles Leale heard the pistol fire and Mary’s scream, so the twenty-three year old doctor sprinted towards the wounded President . When Leale reached Lincoln, the young doctor saw the physical condition of the President. “He found the president slumped in his chair, paralyzed and struggling to breath” (History.com). “Assassination” states that the doctor reacted quickly by ripping the President’s shirt open for a physical examination, but Leale could not find the bullet wound.
