Abraham Lincoln is highly regarded as one of the best U.S presidents in history. I will be writing about Lincoln's early life, his time as a lawyer, his time during the Civil War and after. On February 12th a boy named Abraham was born into the Lincoln family. The Lincolns lived in a log cabin in Hardin County, Kentucky. Thomas and Nancy Hanks Lincoln was Abraham's parents. Abraham had a older sister Sarah and younger brother Thomas. Abraham’s younger brother sadly died in infancy. Abraham's father, Thomas was a strong pioneer who is respected in the community. McClellan was the General of the Union army during the Seven Days Battles. McClellan was fired from losing the battles in the Seven Days. These were the first battles where Lee was General of the CSA army. After McClellan was fired, he was replaced with Pope. Pope was the Union General at Second Bull Run which was another confederate victory. After Pope was fired McClellan was given a second chance. On September 17th the first northern invasion happened at Antietam. McClellan made the confederate army retreat. McClellan didn't not chance Lee and his army down. McClellan was soonly fired for letting Lee escape. Antietam was the bloodiest day of the war with over 20,000 casualties. On July 1st, 1863 Lincoln created the Emancipation Proclamation. The reason Lincoln created this was because the recent victory at Antietam and to free the slaves. The Emancipation Proclamation gave the north has a true cause. The new Union General George Meade setup his men into a hook form. Lee sent his men to flank the Union line but the 20th ME unit followed them all the way to Big Round Top. The 20th ME stopped the confederate troops and defeated them. On July 3rd Lee decides to to a full frontal attack on the hook. This attack was called Pickett's charge. This charge was an overall fail because of the long walk. On July 4th Lee retreated back to VA, this was the bloodiest battle of the war. July 4th was the turning point of the war because of the victories at Gettysburg and Vicksburg. Meade was fired because he let Lee get away and was replaced with Grant. Grant was the Final General on the Union army. Grant chased after Lee throughout the south leading to the last few final battles. While chasing Lee, Grant gave some of his men to Sherman. Sherman plan was to march towards the SC sea. The next presidential election was about to happen, Lincoln was gonna lose from all the hate he is getting from this war.
