Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth President of the United States; even though not one person alive was there, we all know that Abraham was one of the greatest American Presidents in history. Lincoln led the United States through its Civil War, preserved the Union, paved the way to the abolition of slavery, strengthened the federal government, modernized the economy and many other things. Among the list of accomplishments I am only going to elaborate of a few. The Emancipation Proclamation. The proclamation declared "that all persons held as slaves" within the rebellious states "are, and henceforward shall be free." Doesn't that sound outstanding? On June 19, 1862, endorsed by Lincoln, Congress passed an act banning slavery on all federal territory.
