Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States of America. He is considered one of the best U.S. presidents because he had gotten us through the most bloodiest war, the Civil War and had emancipated the slaves from slavery. Abraham Lincoln was born February 12th, 1809 and was born in Hodgenville Kentucky. First Lincoln had first started his life off as a common man and had to take care of his family a lot as a child. Then before Lincoln had became president he was a self taught, lawyer, legislator, and a vocal opponent of slavery. Later Lincoln had decided to run for president in 1860 and when he ran for president he had only received ⅖ of the popular vote and had won the electoral vote, this had made the southerners furious because they feel like they had no voice in the government so this resulted of the south trying to secede from the union to try to form their own country. Abraham Lincoln’s goal before the war was to keep the union together as one so they would have a better chance of winning the war. After a long 4 years of battling of the North and the South, the North had won the battle due to better economy, more troops, better weapons, and better industry to make all of the materials for the war. later when he was watching the play a man named John Wilkes Booth had snuck into where Lincoln was sitting and shot Lincoln in the back of the head and had stabbed a man who had tried to defend Lincoln. He had died the next morning in the Peterson House in Washington D.C. This has brought attention all over the United states and not only were the northerners mad but the southerners were furious as well.
