“The Gettysburg Address” On November 19, 1863, Abraham Lincoln gave a two-minute speech during the American Civil War, dedicated to Soldiers buried at the “Soldiers' National Cemetery at Gettysburg.” His speech was a eulogy for those who lost their lives during the war. Abraham Lincoln was the second person to speak. A man named Edward Everett spoke for two hours before Abraham gave his speech. Yet Abraham Lincoln’s quick speech made a bigger impact on those who were there, and is still famous today. He reminded the people that the soldiers sacrificed their lives for the sake of our country, for our freedom. He reminded them of how this nation started, and that the soldiers died so we preserve and keep what our forefathers worked so hard for. Kennedy gave his inaugural speech on January 20, 1961. On this day, in front of many Americans, John F. Kennedy was administered the oath of office by Supreme Court Chief Justice Earl Warren. In his speech, President Kennedy gave the citizens the responsibility to participate in public service and asked them to have an "ask not what your country can do for you-ask what you can do for your country” mindset.
