After the colonization of America took place, sectionalism emerged between the now industrialized North and the agrarian South. Throughout the existing sections in the North and South, different perspectives about social, cultural, and economic issues such as slavery, rights, and tariffs arose, proving to be the foundation for the American Civil War. The economy called for a strong sense of unity and support within the regions due to the need for modern transportation in importing and exporting purchased goods for war. Led by President Davis, the Confederate economy of the South was unsuccessful in reaching its highest capability. Meanwhile President Abraham Lincoln led the Union States of the North to a prosperous industrial economy.
Rebecca, I agree with your view on President Lincoln 's actions being revolutionary for the time. While Lincoln faced opposition to some of his beliefs a majority of his actions influenced the United States in the long term. I also agree that the Emancipation Proclamation was the greatest measure of his presidency. The Emancipation Proclamation was a decree that freed slaves in areas of rebellion if they were to fight in the war, which did not please everyone (Faragher,396). I really enjoyed your discussion over Lincoln 's cabinet it played a major role in the struggles of Lincoln 's presidency.
Leadership played a very big role war in the Civil War and in this essay I will explain how one Union and one Confederate general displayed leadership. First I am going to talk about General Ulysses S. Grant who was a union General. General Grant is very well known as one of the better generals in the Civil War. General Grant show leadership throughout the Civil War this being one way he was a general who wasn’t afraid to push or attack the Confederates he showed this by overtaking the city of Vicksburg on May 19th, 1863. The reason of that being so vital to the war is because it split the Confederacy into 2 seperate parts.
Reason 1: He was highly undersupplied and nearly won against the odds During the Civil War, the Union had a huge advantage in terms of supplies. They captured New Orleans, which was the main port in all of the South. It allowed trade to occur in the South. With the capture of New Orleans, the South couldn’t trade. As a consequence of that, the South couldn’t get any supplies.
Uncompromising differences between the South (Confederacy) and the North (Union) created a civil war that lasted five years. During this war, Abraham Lincoln was president. His election led to the secession of many Southern states. After refusing to recognize the Confederacy as its own nation, the American Civil War commenced in 1861. The three main causes of the Civil War between the North and the South were industrial and agricultural economies, politics, and slavery.
The election of President Lincoln had a huge affect on the civil war. Lincoln made numerous attempts to free slaves and to end the civil war. All of his attempts had helped in ways to end the civil war. His attempts included of the 13th amendment, the Emancipation Proclamation, his hard work on keeping the United States as one, and etc. Also because of the election of president Lincoln the 14th and 15th amendment was later on made as one of the Civil War Amendments.
The North had an excellent Navy that had the ability to blockade things that were headed to the Southern states. The South desperately needed food, weapons, and ammunition but weren’t able to get their supplies because the North had blockades that stopped the supplies they needed. The North also had gun factories, shipyards, and coal readily available at anytime which puts them at a huge advantage over the South. They had more money and were just more advanced in their industry, which helped them win the civil war.
The Civil War was a monumental bloodshed, which was fought between the United States of America and the Confederate States, from 1861 to 1865. The primary cause of the war was the Southern states' desire to preserve the institution of slavery, which did not please the beliefs of the North. At the beginning of the Civil War, twenty-two million people lived in the North and 9 million people, which included four million of whom were slaves, lived in the South. The North, led by President Abraham Lincoln and his trusted generals, had more money, more factories, more horses, more railroads, and more food than the south. These advantages made the United States much more powerful than the Confederate States, which ultimately led to Northern victory.
Abraham Lincoln and Civil War America is a biography that tells the life and success of Abraham Lincoln. At the beginning it talks about his life and how rough he grew up. As Lincoln grew up he wanted to learn to read and write because he was ashamed that his father couldn 't. Lincoln learning to read and write was a key factor to help him win the election and become as successful as he was. Even as a young child Lincoln claims to naturally be anti-salvory ( page 281). This is important to his stand point during the war.
Abraham Lincoln once said, “A house divided against itself cannot stand.” These words reflected the exact circumstance that was presented to the nation in the times leading up to the Civil War. Before there was a Union and Confederacy, the division began with just the Northern and Southern states. Not only were these regions different regarding geography, but they also had many different views about individual life in the states. One of those differences revolved around slavery.
The South lost a lot of potential industry when states decided to join the Union. The Confederacy, as a result, would be unable to compete with the Union. Second of all, because of the lack of industry, the South would not be able to produce as much munition for the war effort. The North would have had the upperhand. Third of all, the South did not have as many factories as the North.
There were too many factors leading up to the war that only increased the fundamental differences between the north and the south. Lincoln, as well as many others, believed that the country could not continue to exist as two nations under a singular government and survive. The only way was for the two opposing ideologies had to settle the differences between, however, the differences were so important to each section a political compromise would have ultimately ended in one side's economic and social ideology being dismissed. Both sides were unwilling to let their ideologies be taken out by the other. The cotton gin changed the stakes as it revived the cotton production, the main product of the south and set it in place as the key part of the southern economy.
The generals in the north knew that losing the entire south section of the nation would cripple their military strength. The first battle of the war was in fact fought over a military base, Fort Sumter and even though there wasn’t any casualties the north new that to keep the nation they had to keep fighting (6). All the military bases where to protect the harbors nearby also lincoln knowing the ports would play an ever increasing role in the economic success of the country. The Military strength the nation would have lost would have been a greater loss than the war itself. The united states navy was also starting to come into shape at the time so the loss of the ports would have been devastating to the navy.
Over hundreds of years America has had many presidents, some able to complete the tasks at hand, but many were not worthy of leading this nation. President Abraham Lincoln was one of the few who led the United States of America with great strength and courage. Abraham Lincoln was the best U.S. president because he had a great impact on ending slavery and he was one of the greatest natural strategists and leaders of all time. Abraham Lincoln is considered to be America 's wisest president. Abraham Lincoln, "proved to be a shrewd military strategist and a savvy leader during what became the costliest conflict ever fought on American soil."
One of the several factors that helped cause the Civil War was the economy at the time. While the economy wasn’t in bad shape, the North and South were different and had very different views and ideas about their futures. The Northern area couldn 't have huge farms like the South. However, they were very diverse in the items they wanted to produce.
