With all of the books written about President Lincoln, one might believe that there is nothing more to learn about this great man. However, Doris Kearns Goodwin wanted to show an unconventional analysis of Mr. Lincoln and how he used politics to his advantage. Three well educated men with similar backgrounds were compared alongside Abraham Lincoln who was considered to be much less educated and unqualified for the position. This trio of officials was astounded when Lincoln won the election. Over time and years of working together, the four of them had become friends and respected each other.
In the story, Harriet Tubman, Edward Brodas is the most powerful main character in the book. On page 2 Edward Brodas is represented as a man with lots of land, a big house, and the most power over the slaves. For example, “The house in which Edward Brodas lived was very large” and “Edward Brodas was known as the master to his negro slaves.” Both of these quotes represents the power that Edward Brodas had. The second most powerful character is Harriet Tubman which can be shown on pages 63 and 94.

For example, John Fitzgerald Kennedy (JFK) fought for the civil rights movement even though many people in the Southern states opposed him. Ava in “Don’t Give Up the Fight” shows ”Perseverance” by not giving in to her rude coach and track teammates. Though they both show a common theme, they present the theme in different ways. Ava shows perseverance by not giving up to her teammates and fighting for herself, but JFK showed perseverance by not giving up to hundreds of people and was fighting for hundreds
I agree with him because a lot of people that were in a high social also political standing such as Lincoln were supposed to speak long speeches using grammar and complex words. After all Lincoln spoke in common language so the people could understand it better also gave a short speech stating the importance and gravity of the situation
Reconstruction, if executed properly, would have eliminated the racial segregation and racial tension we have today. For instance, in the news recently there has been a controversy regarding the Confederate flag. The Confederate flag is said to represent slavery because the Confederates, during the Civil War, used this flag as their battle flag; the Confederates fought to keep slavery. Therefore the Confederate flag DOES in fact represent slavery. The recent shooter of 9 African-American people in a South Carolina Baptist Church, Dylan Roof, sparked this debate of whether the Confederate flag should be removed.

If a man who lived on the street was made a king of the county the power he was given would probably go to his head. In a time of power your character can differ from what it was originally before the power was granted. For example if Kanye West became president the power of being president aka “being in power” would show the true character of him because he had the ability to do what he wanted.

This quote in ways dehumanizes Silvio and compares his obsession with revenge as animalistic, and thus unnatural.
At the beginning of The Underground Railroad the main character Cora doesn’t really “fit in” with the rest of the slaves and there are certain conflicts between her and others. Cora is not looked at as a trouble maker and she gets put into a home called the “Hob” the hob was supposed to be for damaged and troubled slaves. Based on the quote “Ceaser had seen Cora stripped naked for the whippings, the blood pouring skin.” P.45, shows that although Cora is already at a disadvantage by being a slave she is being whipped bad enough to bleed shows that she is a troublemaker and very unliked by many other slaves. In addition, Cora is a strong girl who is not afraid to stand up for herself and what is right.
I really liked Abraham Lincoln ’s quote. He says in his quote, “Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.” This really stood out to me because I do agree with it a lot.
