There are many people that have played a great role in U.S. History, one of these people was Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809. Lincoln was born to Nancy and Thomas Lincoln. He had two siblings. His older sister was named Sarah, and his younger brother was named Thomas. They both died in infancy. He was born in a log cabin in Hardin County, Kentucky that only had one room. His mother died of tremetol when he was 9 years old. She was 34 years old when she died. His formal education was an total span of about 18 months. He attended school a few weeks or even days at a time. Even though both of his parents were illiterate, his stepmother still encouraged, and suggested Abraham to read. His family moved again, and Abraham was 22 when they decided to move again. They moved to Macon County Illinois in 1830. Abraham Lincoln chose to start to make a living in manual labor. Wielding an ax was a skill he was known for. He early on made a living splitting wood to use for fire and rail fencing. Lincoln eventually moved to New Salem, Illinois. He worked as a postmaster, and shopkeeper. Later on he worked as a general store owner. In the time he spent there, Lincoln picked up some social skills, and a talent for storytelling. He was elected to the Illinois state legislature. He was a member of the Whig Party. Lincoln decided that he wanted to become a lawyer. He read William Blackstone’s Commentaries on the Law of England to teach himself the law. In 1837 he was admitted to the bar. He then moved to Springfield Illinois, where he started to practice in the John T. Stuart law firm. Abraham then partnered with William Herndon in 1844. William and Herndon developed a close personal and professional relationship. From the years of 1847-1849, Abraham Lincoln served one single term in the U.S. House of Representatives. During his term in office, he spoke out about against the Mexican-American War. He also supported Zachary Taylor in 1848 for president. Lincoln’s criticism of the war made him very unpopular back home. He then decided against running for a second term. He returned back to Springfield Illinois to practice
