The biblical example of Sarah, Abraham’s wife amazes me the depth of loyalty she had to Abraham and faith in God’s sovereignty. Sarah was in a difficult situation with physical and emotional needs. Sarah barrenness produced emotional needs of loneliness, grief, disappointment, feelings of inferiority, rejection, envy and anger. But God saw and heard her broken heart, and answered her needs. God bound Sarah’s wounds both within her lifetime, as well as her life testimony throughout time making her the mother of nations. Sarah’s life testimony is one of faithfulness to her husband and to God, despite her depth of emotional and physical despair. We begin to learn about Sarah when her name was still Sarai in Genesis 11, as she becomes Abram’s wife. Within the same biblical paragraph, we also learn that Sarai was barren with no children. Genesis 12 opens with God calling Abram at the age of seventy-five to leave his country, his people, and his father’s household to go to a new land where God will make Abram into a great nation. “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. Would I have not caused a commotion if my husband feared his life and not once, but twice called me his sister and let me be given to a King? What depth of hope and trust Sarah displays how she relied on God to take care of her believing in His sovereignty, that she did not give way to fear. Additionally, the book of Hebrews also shares the testimony of faith Sarah had “and by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered Him faithful who had made the promise” (NIV, Hebrews 11:11). Oh to have the faith of Sarah, to believe that with God all things are possible! May we as Sarah’s daughter today hold on to His promises to carry His story to this generation as those and those yet to
