I believe that the awards I have won through my participation in golf, basketball, and track exemplify my passion and drive to do my best. While trophies and certificates are fun to receive, they all too soon gather dust and are forgotten. What I will never forget are the lessons I learned through my involvement in high school sports. At the very least, high school sports have prepared me for my future at The Ohio State University where I plan to major in Social and Behavioral Sciences. This degree will be an integral part of achieving my ultimate goal of one day becoming a licensed Speech Pathologist.
As I grew older and began learning about life, I realized what an impact sports had on me. I learned a lot about dedication. In order to perform my best, I had to work hard. Practice became half of my life. Every night, I went home with a beaten body, but I did it because i loved my sport.

The Academic Success Center located on the first floor in DeMoss is great valuable resource at Liberty University that every student should take advantage. The Academic Success Center provides programs like tutoring for student that need extra help in a particular subject, a writing services to help improve their writing skills as well providing student with academic advisors. It was an area where I could excel in easily, which lead me to love it even more. The adrenaline rush and competition has always made it even more exciting. Despite my parents not signing me up for sport leagues, I still strived to get into sport teams at school. Although there is a lot of competition, I always feel confident in my abilities whenever I tryout. However, just a “feeling” can not dictate whether or not I am actually a good athlete, so I want to prove my athletic abilities through something more realistic and mathematical.
I personally, as an athlete, think that I have learned many things that will carry with me in the future. I have learned skills such as communicating with others, working hard as a team, and building many friendships that will last a lifetime. Studies state that former athletes were far more successful and gained special qualities. Although some students in school sports do pass most of them don't ‘’. It stands to reason that students that don't have to worry about after school sports get better grades. All student should pass with good passing grade and not have to think about sports. As you can see sports are taking away not only time, but also lowering grades for students.
The athletic activities teach the students how to work hard by becoming a more skilled athlete than they were before. Sports especially teach how to work together and how to work for others to make the team as a whole better. Athletics teach these character building skills and this build the individual through the practice of working for something outside of themselves. Without athletics the students might not otherwise learn the practical skills they might need in the future avenue of occupation they might find themselves in.
Sport is something that plays a very important role in the lives of many people. This certainly holds true in my life. From a very young age, I was involved in some form of athletics. I was never the best, I was not ever the worst, but I always continued to play because I enjoyed it so much. I have played almost every sport available to children who grow up in Louisiana.
Running has definitely influenced my academic career. In a sport where mental toughness is often as important as physical strength and endurance, running for Westfield has given me the confidence and assurance to excel in times of difficulty in school as well. When I began writing this paper, I knew how my definition of success has changed over the years of experience in the highs and lows of academics, sports, and typical, everyday events. I began to wonder how people that have shown the most incredible amounts of “success” would define what they have. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines success as “the attainment of wealth, favor, or eminence” (“Success”). The definition leaves many loose ends open for interpretation.
The challenges I have faced influenced my academic performance and guided me into pursuing my college education. My junior year was a struggle for me. I decided to challenge myself like I have never been challenged before. I took on an honors class that I clearly wasn 't ready for, but I stuck with it and was determined to finish.
My plan to achieve academic success To achieve academic success is to make sure I get everything done on time, and manage to complete high school. I believe academic success is important because of all the opportunities it offers in the future. If you can succeed in schooling there is a better chance of doing well in life. This can be achieved numerous ways whether it be through intense studying, making sure I get all my stuff turned in on time, making sure im satisfied with my work, and whether I am able to get all the knowledge to get out of highschool and go to college. Studying is an important part of doing well in school because of how it gets me through tests, homework, or class assignments.
Academic excellence of students has been the goal of most higher education institutions. It is because of the assumption that those who excel in their academic endeavors will soon become competent professionals, contributing to the advancement of their respective industries and of the societies they are part of. Therefore, colleges and universities in particular exert all efforts in instilling in their students the significance of academic excellence, thus, challenging them to strive for it. It could also be said that the pursuit of academic excellence must be within the framework of “academic integrity,” which “involves all acts upholding ethical values and maintaining a good moral character within the academic environ and context” (Resurreccion, 2012, p. 34). Furthermore, it is through academic integrity that the public maintains its confidence in the protocol of any investigative endeavour and results as well as in the quality of learning offered at various levels of education (Bretag, 2013).
