On June 7th, 1954, one of the greatest minds in our history died. In an awful twist, hardly anyone remembers him today, and little do they know of his accomplishments, and what was left for him to impact. If time travel were possible, going back and proving Alan Turing’s importance to history, showing what he had to face, and proving how the world would change would be one of the perfect changes to make. Alan Turing was an incredibly influential person through his short life. He was a leading mind behind math and physics, and most importantly computer science. During World War II, Turing actually managed to crack the “enigma”, which was a code used by the Germans. Figuring out this code was an essential piece in turning the tide of the war, and in the end happened to save countless lives by helping the war, an …show more content…
This was a pioneering revolution in computer science, and without it, computers today may not even be close to how they are now. Turing continued his development of computers, further influencing the computer science industry, and even creating ones that could process mathematics. He also brought up philosophical questions about A.I. and their use today, and most famously, came up with the idea for the Turing Machine, which is today the basis for modern computers. Despite all of these accomplishments, two years before his death, Alan Turing was arrested, and lost his security clearance and good reputation. This was not any wrongdoing either, but rather for being a homosexual. In jail, he was presented with two choices: Go to prison, or face chemical castration and hormonal therapy. Turing in the end chose the castration, likely to continue his studies, which is all he wanted to do after the war. The torture he dealt with, along with the inhumane treatment by others, drove him to suicide. A brilliant man was forced out of the world by one of humankind's greatest
