In “Benjamin Banneker,” Benjamin was a very influential man who accomplished many important things. He attained many accomplishments such as building a sufficient amount of knowledge, creating his very own clock, and Benjamin even wrote his first almanac. Because of Benjamin Banneker’s highly innovative ways, he paved the way for many who similarly came from nothing. Primarily, Benjamin Banneker came from a fairly poor family. Initially, based on the knowledge Banneker gained, he was more than capable of constructing a clock. Due to his love for analysis and hands-on projects, he decided to build a clock. According to paragraph three of “Benjamin Banneker,” the author states, “In the 1750s he borrowed a watch from a friend. Although he had seen a watch and a sundial, he had never seen a clock before. He deconstructed the friend’s watch so that he could study its components.” This goes to show the reader that Banneker was determined. Although he had never seen a clock before, he was determined to build one. Built with such precision, the Banneker Clock became the first clock to be built in America and successfully ran for twenty years. Benjamin Banneker building a clock was important in his life because this was the first major project that he had accomplished.
