The experience of living in America is one that is unique based on a plethora of reasons. The disparities between a white Man, a white female, a black male, and a black female are largely based on race, ethnicity, environment in which they grew up in, and access to opportunity. The American Dream is a national ethos of the United states, which emphasizes the idea of freedom and equal opportunity for all those who want to progress in this nation. James Truslow Adams, who first coined the Term the “American Dream” wrote in his book that the American dream is “the dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement.” Although the hope of achieving this dream should be a …show more content…

The sixteen pieces of work show the wide range in the African American community. My exhibit touches on the fact that African Americans typically come from troubled areas, ones that can suck a child into and make them a part of it. When someone is part of their neighborhood and does not know life beyond the confines of their community, they will not have the desire or the will to make something of themselves beyond their neighborhood in which they live in. This results in a cycle of poverty, lack of opportunity, lack of education, and a lack of opulence in the entire African American community. For the most part, African Americans who derive from areas that do not give them a fair chance to succeed in a world beyond their community find a way to make it out of their environments by means of entertainment or athletics. Jay Z, LeBron, Meek Mill, Diddy, Joey Bada$$, Kendrick Lamar, and many other influential and important figures in the African American community have made it out of the confines of their neighborhood by using sports, music and entertainment as a way to progress in the world.
