Similarities and reasons for these:

Agamemnon is the reason behind Achilles’ wrath in both the Iliad and Troy. He triggered it by taking Briseis from Achilles’ who was his love interest in the movie Troy and his concubine in the Iliad. Keeping a relationship connection in both sources shows the significance that she has with Achilles. Modern culture expects every hero to have a love interest in someone else. Having Briseis in Troy shows that Achilles has a softer side and he can be compassionate to those he cares about. When Agamemnon takes her, it causes the audience to despise him because he only thinks of himself as opposed to the greater effect it could have on the outcome of his soldiers. This is shown in the movie Troy when Achilles speaks, “You are the only person in Troy who can say that.” This shows that there is something between Achilles and Briseis which makes the taking of her more meaningful on …show more content…

The Iliad - book one, lines 318-319 - quote of, “Haste to Achilles tent; where take briseis’ hand, and bring Her beauties to us,” gives off the impression that Agamemnon didn’t care about the state of Briseis or any meaning she may have to Achilles, he just wanted her with him so that he could restore his glory that had been lost. This causes the audience feel sympathy towards Achilles because he had his woman taken. This causes the major event of Achilles to withdraw from the war. It was kept the same because it shows early in the movie the motives that Agamemnon has - he only cares about everything that relates to him. It gives the idea that he is a greedy, stubborn man that focuses on himself. The taking of Briseis being the key event of Achilles withdrawing from the war can be related to both audiences.
