Previous to the 1960s, we were engaged in World War II, which helped our nation rise out of it’s depression. During the 1950s and 60s a great deal of the nation was in relative economic prosperity. This caused the economic disparities in the United States to be more obvious. Activism, defined by the merriam webster dictionary, is “a doctrine or practice that emphasizes direct vigorous action especially in support of or opposition to one side of a controversial issue.” This means people are actively looking for ways to bring about social and political change to their nation. Everyday people can be an activist. One might find themselves seeing the activism as a great tool for social change, while others may not.
