Ad Analysis In society today, advertisements are so vastly used in every aspect of people’s lives that many times, an individual might not even realize the affect they have. From the time a person is born, advertisers feed products and brandings into him or her. Advertisers use certain techniques that use people’s emotions and morals to help sell a product. In an ad for the new Emporio Armani Connected smartwatch, the advertisers utilize celebrity endorsement, music, and the use of colors to attract the consumer to the product. The ad begins with the view of a city at night, and in the background, faint sirens can be heard. The screen cuts to a male walking into an empty, industrial building, while upbeat music begins to play. Zooming in to a close­up of the man, he looks down at his watch, which is then shown (Armani). Just like the colors in an ad, music can be a significant influence in purchasing of a product. Familiarity of music is essential in advertising, as people are “more likely to have favorable attitudes towards the advertisement when it had familiar background music” (Hyun Hee 777). In the Armani ad, the company chooses a song that is very popular and that most people are familiar with. When hearing this, the consumer will be more inclined to the product due to familiarity. The marketers must also keep in mind the goal that they are trying to reach with ads. If advertisers want the ad to grab the consumer’s attention so that they can promote their product, “then background music should be selected through an appropriate pretest” (Hyun Hee 781). The music chosen for the Armani ad is upbeat and catches the attention of the consumer, making them want to buy the product more.
