In England, the nineteenth century was a time of growth and development caused by the industrial revolution. Machines developed to be more advanced and quickly became the main source for producing goods. During this time, many inventors were looking for ways to further improve the machines so different products can be produced faster. One of the main contributors to theorizing the future abilities of machines was Ada Lovelace. She believed and developed a vision that in the future machines will become capable of completing tasks on its own and without the guidance of people. Firstly, Ada Lovelace was a strong minded woman who faced discrimination because of her gender but continued her research for mathematics and science which greatly influenced the technology of today. Lovelace was a scientist and researcher but was expected to “…intermit her mathematical studies for marriage and motherhood but resume when domestic duties allowed”. Women were expected to have little to no education, no career and only attend to family affairs. Societal expectations only allowed women to fulfill the needs of family life and disagreed that women can pursue a career. Lovelace demonstrated her willpower to continue her research because even though society expected her to prioritize her family duties over her research, she was able to complete both. Likewise, thorough her ability to handle research and family duties, she exemplified that the discriminatory view on women was inaccurate. Her capability brought a reminder and justified that women are competent to handle work like men. Furthermore, Lovelace contributed the most to the completion of the Analytical Engine memoir and was allowed to published her work but “… her name was not included because it was not considered proper for a woman”.
