Sensation is when information taken in by the six senses – vision, smell, taste, skin senses, hearing, spatial orientation – is converted into an electric nerve signal. This is then sent through the nervous system to the thalamus, which sends it to the appropriate area of the brain for interpretation. Perception is how the brain makes sense of this information.
