Introduction Addiction Solutions Counseling Center (ASCC) is a government funded public agency that specializes in substance abuse and mental health. ASCC serves Clare, Gladwin, Gratiot, Isabella, Mecosta, Midland, Montcalm, and Osceola counties. There is currently a site in Mount Pleasant and Alma, MI. However, the Alma branch will be closing within then next month due to funding changes. They provide a variety of services and treatment methods that are personalized to each client. ASCC is proactive in making its services affordable and accommodating for all. For my interview I was directed to Katie Ballinger, who’s the executive director, clinical supervisor, and lead therapist at Addictions Solutions. Katie’s mom was the founder of this agency, inspiring Katie to pursue her masters in Social Work and continue this work. This human service agency provides counseling services for mental health and substance abuse. As a future social worker I was interested in learning more about how these agencies function. While I may not be directly working with substance abuse or mental health, it can be a prominent factor neighboring the oppressed. The purpose of this is to measure the mental and health conditions of the client. From this the agency is able to determine if they’re the best fit in meeting the client’s needs. They will refer the client out to another agency if they find that another place is more suitable for the client. If not, they will proceed in filling out a treatment plan assessment. In this assessment they identify the clients needs, strengths, and establish goals.
