ADHD stands for (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) formerly referred to as 'ADD', Is a brain disorder that causes problems in paying attention or focusing on one task, controlling one's behavior & hyperactivity. Many people can have these troubles from time to time, but people suffering from ADHD constantly suffer from these problems . Does it have different types? The American Psychiatric Association has identified three types for ADHD, Each has different symptoms. These types are: The Inattentive Type, The Hyperactive-Impulsive Type & The Combined Type. The Hyperactive-Impulsive Type: • squirming, fidgeting, feeling restless • difficulty sitting still • near-constant talking • trouble engaging in quiet activities • acting out of turn, not thinking about consequences of actions • blurting out answers and inappropriate comments, interrupting A person (child or adult) with this type can be a disruption in classroom or workplace. The Combined Type: People who have the combined type don’t show specific symptoms, but rather a combination of at least six symptoms of each of the previously mentioned types. The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) explains that most children have the combined type of ADHD. Who gets it? ADHD typically affects Children and Teens, but sometimes it continues to adulthood and other times it affects adults that didn't have it back in their childhood. But not every Adult with these symptoms is diagnosed with ADHD.
