I am looking for a university that is strong in academics, community service, helps launch my professional career and provides an enriching experience overall.

Tulane is a unique institution at which to fulfill all of these goals. It provides course flexibility, including the ability to combine majors and minors, which attracts me as I would be given the opportunity to be a Psychology and Early Education Major— in the same major—something not possible in any of the other schools that I’ve considered. With Tulane’s flexibility, I would also be able to minor in dance, which is something that I’ve done for the majority of my life thus far and would very much like to continue to participate in for as long as I can.

I have a passion for community service. Two summers ago, I was privileged enough to volunteer at a center called Kadima, for the stimulation of mentally and physically disabled in Mexico City. It was a remarkable, transformative and immersive experience that I will never forget that gave me a feeling of fulfillment that I would like to replicate. I admire the fact that Tulane is first among our country’s universities to make community service mandatory. Remarkably, the Office of Teacher Preparation and Certification allows Psychology and Early Education majors to obtain a certification to teach in grades PK-3 from the Louisiana State Department of Education. Moreover, that certification can be transferred to other states, if I so choose to make another state my home beyond college. This is a unique feature I didn’t find in any of the other universities I am contemplating and makes Tulane very appealing in only providing me with a top-notch education but also giving me the tools and certification to pursue my career right after
