Imagine having to hide in fear not knowing when you are able to stop. You have to make no noise or movement until you know that there is no one around, but even if there aren’t people around, you still need to be quiet. If you are found by the Nazis, or anyone else against Jews, you could be taken to work at a concentration camp or sentenced to death because hiding is forbidden. The reason that this is happening to you is because you are a Jew and many people don’t like what you believe in. Anti-semitism is enmity toward or hatred of Jews as a religious or ethnic group, often accompanied by social, economic, or political discrimination. Hitler was a German soldier in World War I. Germany’s economy blew up, and he believed that Jews were to blame for Germany’s loss in that war and for their economy to blow up. That is when Hitler wanted to begin what he did. Anti-semitism had been a belief, but Hitler took it to an extreme. Hitler wanted everyone to believe in anti-semitism. Hitler believed that Jews should no longer live during any time. He hated them because of their beliefs and customs. In his eyes, Germans were the “perfect” race. He had a name for this race which was called the Aryan race which referred to people who were non-Jewish and non-Gypsy Caucasians. Since he hated Jews so much, he began what is called the Holocaust. The Holocaust was between January 30, 1933 through May 8, 1945. He and the Nazi soldiers murdered 6 million Jews because of their beliefs. By 1943, over one million Jews were killed and many were hiding in fear. In total, there were over 25,000 Jews hiding from the Nazis and Hitler for days, months, and even years. He also began concentration camps. These were the places that the Nazi soldiers would take the Jews to work or to be killed. Some of the most known camps were Bergen-Belsen and Auschwitz-Birkenau. Many Jews died in concentration from exhaustion, disease, or they got executed. Hitler was also known for other tragic events. One famous event was Kristallnacht, also known as “The Night of the Broken Glass”. From the article, “Kristallnacht” it says that on November 9, 1938, groups of Nazis set fire to more than 900 synagogues, which are Jewish churches, destroyed over 7,000 Jewish businesses, killed 91 Jews, and deported 30,000 Jewish men. As you can see, Hitler did some pretty violent things to affect and end the Jewish people’s life because of what they believed
