The advanced practice nurse (APN) holds the umbrella name for the certified nurse practitioner, certified nurse midwife, certified registered nurse anesthetist, and clinical nurse specialist. It is imperative for a new APN graduate to have a plan for their transitioning role from the registered nurse to the advanced practicing nurse when searching and entering a professional job. This professional developmental plan will highlight the APN scope of practice for the state of Kentucky, provide a personal assessment for the APN as a new graduate, disseminate networking and marketing strategies to guide the APN for finding job opportunities, and will also provide a curriculum vitae for the nurse practitioner.
APN Scope of Practice The Nurse Practice Act represents all the laws for each state that a nurse practitioner follows including the regulations for the nurse practitioners scope of practice. Each state holds its own statutes and regulations for the APN to follow for their practice. In the state of Kentucky, the advanced practice nurse is defined under the Kentucky Regulation Statutes as the “performance of additional acts by registered nurses licensed as APRNs” (Kentucky Board of Nursing, 2017, p.1).
