In Greek Mythology there was always a monster to be slain by the hero figure. This one specifically, was the offspring of Typhon and Echidna. The monster was called the Hydra, known for terrorizing farmers and livestock around Lake Lerna; therefore, hearing of this, King Tiryns sent Hercules to kill the Hydra. Filled with courage, Hercules had no doubt he could slay the hydra and complete yet another trial. Upon seeing the Hydra, its heads were above the clouds and only came down for a worthy battle.
Joseph Campbell was a well-known mythologist, who was well known for his work that covers a lot of aspects of the human experience. He is stated to believe that the monomyth of a hero’s journey can be applied to any type of literature such as movies, dreams, and so on. So in this essay I will be talking about five subcategories he talks about and comparing them to the movie Hercules. As we already know Hercules is a movie about Zeus son Hercules that was kidnapped when he was young and turned into a half mortal and he cant return to his family until he proves to be a hero. The subcategories I will be talking about is the call to adventure, refusal of the call, supernatural aids, the road of trails, and belly of the whale.
Let's start with the Myth. In the Myth, Hercules his Greek Archetype is the Warrior. That means his quest is becoming a hero or a god, in order for him to achieve this he must complete 12 labors that will test him in any way possible. His fear is that he won’t be strong enough to complete the labors. The Dragon he faces is Hera.

In the book Fahrenheit 451 written by Ray Bradbury, a character voices his opinion of the abnormality of society through a famous greek legend known as the 7 tasks of hercules of which one story depicts a seemingly invincible man but with not only his strength but mind helped him prevail. In relation to the 7 tasks of hercules , one of Hercules tasks was his battle against Antaeus, Hercules had to defeat a man of incredible strength more so than even him, but when Antaeus was away from his natural habitat the earth he was weak, just as the people in fahrenheit displaced from their knowledge are weaker as they had no books or thought provoking emotional times, thus being displaced from their habitat of knowledge censored from real life as a whole.

Although people may say that this didn’t matter because he was very strong, he suffered like anyone else would. First of all, Hera drove him insane, causing him to murder his own family(perseus.tufts.edu) This shows mental suffering, because he lost all that mattered to him, and even worse he was the one who killed them. Next, Hercules had to go through the 12 labors, a grueling task to do so. To explain how this shows physical suffering, Hercules had to go through labors such as The Erymanthian Boar, the Cretan Bull, and The Nemean Lion, all strong creatures that he had to defeat.

Mythology is a collection of myths and stories belonging to a particular belief system or cultural tradition. Even though there are a variety of different myths taught around the world, Greek mythologies are more famously known for their fruitful stories and complex relationships. Greek mythologies mostly concern their gods and heroes such as; Hercules, Achilles, Theseus, and Perseus. Of the many Greek heroes, Jason is the most heroic due to the fact that although he is abandoned at a very young age, he is still able to survive, also he proves to Hera the goddess who hated heroes that he is worthy to be favoured by her, and he completes the impossible quest of the Golden Fleece. Jason is born in a very superior family, having a father who is the lawful king of Iolcus.

Hercules slays the Hydra to the delight of a cheering crowd. The beast has been pummeled to death by a landslide. The movie is about a single mission completed by Hercules rather than a whole life story even though it includes background and a meaningful lesson. Perhaps the greatest difference between the Hollywood remake and the actual book is the murder of Hercules’ wife Megara and their kids. Since movies take a lot of dedication and money the screenwriters had to take the original and make it as interesting as they could. Because of this the movie’s version of their death is due to three savage wolves made to resemble the mythological character, Cerberus, Hades guard dog of the underworld while Hercules’ was drugged. In both pieces Hercules is unaware of his actions but, for different reasons.
In this analysis my main focus would be: why Hercules was famous in Greek Myth? , how did he impact the world and its society? and what lessons can be learnt from him? Hercules, the son of Zeus, was very famous in Greek mythology because he slayed the unbeatable nine headed hydra and the famous Nemean lion. When he was a kid he strangled and killed two venomous snakes with his bare hands and also he was the only warrior in Greek myth who was half god and half human.

Hercules and Theseus, two great heroes from mythology, seem to be similar in many ways. Both extremely brave and noble; with a love of danger and adventure mixed with compassion, creates the perfect heroes. Their stories intertwine with one another’s when Hercules has to save Theseus from the chair of forgetfulness in Hades. Theseus saved Hercules when he was distraught with intent to kill himself. In a similar way, they both stood by their friends no matter the cost.
